2024 Moosic Muster 10-14 January

2024 was another fun-filled music festival, with something for everyone.

If you wanted to learn something new, jam with others or attend the fabulous concerts, it was all there.  People camped or stayed off-site in one of the nearby towns.

Check out the Girgarre Moosic Muster facebook page to see how wonderful it was, according to the people who came.

3 MUSOS AND A BALE OF HAY

In 2003 you would not have said that Girgarre had a 'music scene'. Despite this, three musicians setup on a bale of hay at Girgarre's earliest farmers market with twelve locals enjoying the offerings. It was the height of the millennium drought and Girgarre was suffering badly socially and economically. From this day, an idea sprouted and the Moosic Muster's small, but strong, roots were laid. No-one could have imagined the huge success the annual festival would have and the tremendous support it would receive.

The now iconic Girgarre Moosic Muster attracts more than 1500 music lovers and skilled players from city and country, stamping it as a major fixture on Victoria’s acoustic festival circuit. The tutors and bands still work free of charge. For more than a decade, this unique muster has encouraged and taught thousands of beginners how to play music and provided a platform and exposure for many established and emerging musicians, songwriters and bands.

The festival has promoted the personal joys of making your own music, whether your bent is country, folk, blues, traditional Aussie bush songs, bluegrass, Celtic, pop, gospel or more contemporary styles. From the muster has sprung monthly jamming and teaching sessions coined Jigarre Jammin’, which attract up to 70 musicians every month to the township.

The burgeoning Girgarre music scene has also given birth to several new bands who now 'give back' by performing within their own communities in northern and central Victoria. Through it all, the muster has kept its true heart ~ its community base. It’s still the most friendly and affordable acoustic music event in Victoria.

The Girgarre Moosic Muster is a family-friendly music festival based on a combination of Bluegrass, Irish, Gospel, Country, Bush and Folk music ~ a little for everybody.

It is a festival with a very strong emphasis placed on participation, whether that be as a performer, a teacher or a learner. More than 30 workshops and jams will be held around the town.  These workshops are tiered to be inclusive, from the novice to the gifted musician.

Each muster features free public concerts in the park. The Friday evening concert will feature invited guests and Out-of-a-Hat Band winners. The Saturday evening concert offers a different musical experience.

Sunday morning concerts are continued at the hugely popular Farmers' Market and a gospel session. The Festival concludes with the wind-down concert on Sunday evening. Continuous jamming is encouraged throughout the event and you can even borrow an instrument for free, courtesy of our sponsors.

The muster venue site is the Winter Road Park with on-site camping and the air-conditioned Girgarre Hall. Catering is available with food and drinks. Friday night hosts the legendary Sausage Sizzle. Saturday features a two-course dinner (bookings essential, register using the link on the webpage or facebook) and Sunday incorporates the popular Girgarre Farmers Market

A sincere thank you to the generosity of our valued sponsors and supporters who help to make our Music Muster possible. Your contributions are greatly appreciated by our community.
